The Baseload team brings together Canada’s renewable energy and energy storage pioneers with expertise in all aspects of project development, construction and operation, including system needs assessments, site identification, permitting, grid interconnection, legal, financing and construction management.
Energy Storage Solutions
Energy storage is at the forefront of the energy industry. As the world shifts towards reducing carbon emissions and the electrification of everything, the need for electricity generated from renewable sources will continue to grow at an exponential rate. Energy storage is essential to this transition as the technology enables more renewables to connect to the grid with significantly greater efficiency, provides increased system capacity and helps create a smarter energy system. Over the last five years the costs of lithium-ion batteries have fallen by around 80% and the capabilities of energy storage systems have been proven in the market. As the world continues to decarbonize there is no doubt that energy storage will play an essential role in this transition.
Baseload is a leader in the adoption and implementation of energy storage infrastructure. We have a development pipeline of over 1.2 GW of standalone energy storage projects and energy storage combined with solar energy generation. Our projects will increase the operational flexibility and robustness of the electricity grid and play a significant role in Canada’s transition to a clean energy future.
Renewable Energy
We have been involved in the renewable energy industry for over 20 years. Our first wind energy project was installed in Ontario, Canada in 2008 and we have continued to be leaders in the industry ever since. Our renewable generation projects are strategically located to best support the electricity system and are designed in consultation with stakeholders to minimize environmental and social impacts. In addition to providing sustainable electricity, our projects provide financial and other benefits to local communities, and create jobs in manufacturing, construction and operations.
EV Charging
The transportation industry is undergoing transformative change. With a goal to decarbonize the industry governments around the world and vehicle manufacturers have set targets for an EV dominated future. As of December 2021, there were estimated to be over 200,000 electric vehicles on the road in Canada and with the federal mandate for 100% of new vehicle sales to be electric by 2035 the number of electric vehicles on the road will grow exponentially.
EV charging infrastructure must be implemented in a strategic manner, at the right places and in the right quantities to sustain the growth of electric vehicle adoption. To meet the scale required businesses and property owners are confronted with substantial upgrades to their electrical systems, making EV charging installations financially burdensome, time consuming and extremely complicated, if not completely infeasible.
Baseload is putting our decades of electricity system experience and knowledge to work and applying it to the development of a cross Canada EV charging network – AURA EV Charging. The AURA network utilizes best-in-class EV charging equipment at strategic locations, supporting this important transformation and removing all financial and technical burdens from businesses and property owners.
